New Delhi: The Central Government has taken a big step with the aim of keeping the national honor, pride and sovereignty intact. The Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the 'Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act'. Under this, now intentionally insulting or disrespecting the national song 'Vande Mataram' will be a punishable offence. If found guilty, there is a provision for jail and heavy fine. The government says that respect for national symbols is a fundamental duty of every citizen.
